| about the name | |
Mobium is derived from the original founders strange fascination with the Mobius strip. This is not a dance. Its a geometric oddity named after August Ferdinand Mobius, a German mathematician and astronomer, made by joining the half-twisted ends of a rectangular strip of paper or other flexible material to create a surface both sides of which may be completely traversed without crossing either edge. Sorry you asked now, arent you? In other words, take a strip of paper and twist it into something that looks like the symbol for infinity and you have a Mobius strip. A no-beginning/no-end kind of thing. After the company had been named Mobius, someone discovered that the name was already taken by a printing company up in Wisconsin. So the name was quickly changed from Mobius to Mobium, because no one in their right mind would ever want anything that was ever owned by someone in Wisconsin. It has always been a comfort to many of us to know that were part of a company that started out as an oddity that was then multiplied by a mistake. Its our only tradition. And were damn proud of it. |
